An organisation with socio-cultural commitment, in Chittur since 1982.

Panchajanyam is an organisation actively involved in the promotion of arts, sports and culture. It started functioning in 1982 in the village of Thekkegramam in Chittur as a small library and is today affiliated to the Kerala Granthasala Sangham and rated an A Grade library. Panchajanyam has also added a Reference Library section, the first in Chittur.

Panchajanyam believes in the growing relevance of appreciating arts and culture, and of using them as tools for progressive thinking in today’s society and works diligently towards enriching the lives of the people of Chittur. We are also involved in promoting education and self-employment by providing school uniforms and professional education scholarships to the deserving and by providing financial assistance for self-employment.

History

  • 1982 Started a small library and a sports club in Thekkegramam, Chittur
  • 1985 Affiliated to the Kerala Granthasala Sangham as an E Grade library
  • 1988 Took part in the Kerala Government’s 100% Literacy Drive
  • 1998 Started the Panchajanyam Trust to support the organisation
  • 1999 Began building our own home
  • 2002 The library moved into its own building
  • 2004 Started the Education Support Scheme
  • 2005 Started the Panchajanyam Film Society
  • 2007 Started the Self Employment Assistance Scheme
  • 2008 The first Panchajanyam International Film Festival, at Chittur
  • 2009 Extended the library building
  • 2012 Opened the Reference Library, the first in Chittur
  • 2013 Began recording the local history of Chittur, led by Dr. K. Gopalankutty

The Trust

Panchajanyam Trust was started in 1998 to provide assistance for the infrastructure needs of the library. The Trust is registered as a charitable trust, and under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act all donations to the Trust qualify for income tax benefits.

A scholarship is provided to academically deserving students from financially challenged families, for professional education in the form of non-repayable grants. All the students who have completed their education with this support are employed now.

Every year, free uniforms and notebooks are provided to underprivileged students studying in government-run schools.

Self-employment generation assistance is provided to deserving individuals through interest-free financial assistance.
